Schloss Otting

Mr. Skot made us feel very welcome and really tried to make our stay pleasant. We were very happy with that. The breakfast and cleanliness could use a little work ;-) Still, we’d happily come back anytime.

The room was tiny and cold, and despite being charged an extra €70 on top of the €88 double-room price for a supposed second person and extra bed, there was just one double bed. The bill arrived by mail because they said a receipt wasn’t possible, but it showed only €36. Breakfast was awful too: they ran out of cheese, leaving only jam. The lasagna was burnt and tasteless, though still good somehow. They also ran out of beer and had none the next day. Never again.

Our employee found the room too dirty to stay in, with grime on the wall above the shower and a shower head that didn’t drain properly. The hotel had been booked for two business nights, but they didn’t stay even one. We offered to pay for the first night and get a refund for the second, but that went nowhere. After 8 pm there was no staff around, and our emails still haven’t been answered. The service was absolutely terrible. Both the website and Booking.com say Sunday late check-out is included, but the owner charged extra for it anyway. Very disappointing.

Breakfast with a view over the lake was breathtaking. The castle is beautiful and makes you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time, while still having all the comforts you need. The host was wonderful and friendly, and the views and scenery were stunning. Highly recommended.
