A visit to Lake Starnberg in the early morning gave us such a peaceful feeling. It's in southern Bavaria, 25 kilometres southwest of Munich. By surface area, it's Germany's fifth-largest freshwater lake, and its great average depth makes it second in water volume after Lake Constance.

Check-in with a code was seamless, and the landlord was quick to answer our questions. The information folder sent beforehand was thorough and helpful. We were three in a quiet, warm, cozy two-bedroom apartment with everything we needed, and there would have been plenty of space for six.

Not being able to park at the house was our only issue, and that's a first-world problem. We had a wonderful holiday in excellent accommodation.

It was a shame, especially after we'd saved up for our annual holiday. The stay was seriously affected by loud construction right outside, which had apparently already been going on for four months according to earlier reviews. There was also faulty electrical wiring in the apartment, and it wasn't repaired during our stay. The apartment itself was nice and clean, but there were several serious problems. In our view, the landlords responded unprofessionally to our concerns and to negative reviews, saying, for example, that other guests hadn't complained. They also showed up at the door without warning, including at other guests' apartments.

The otherwise lovely apartment was hard to enjoy or relax in because of the construction site across the street, where two buildings were going up. A circular saw started the noise at 6:30 in the morning. We had to keep the blinds closed in the bedroom, bathroom, and guest toilet so the workers couldn't see in while cleaning in the morning. The landlord said the construction company had been given restrictions, but when we asked the local authorities ourselves, they confirmed that wasn't true. It's a beautiful apartment, but the drawbacks are significant.
