Design Apartments - "Im Holländerhaus"

The apartment itself was nice, with good floors and a well-equipped kitchen. Our place on Neuen Garten had sharp knives and pans without scratches. I can see why reviews are mixed, though: the service feels like a company renting out apartments to tourists, and it wasn’t good. There’s a sign asking guests not to leave the kitchen messy for the next person, but it leaves you wondering who cleans when it’s a little messy. Probably no one. The WiFi was barely usable beyond email, with a 100ms ping, little download bandwidth, and no upload bandwidth. The rooms also weren’t hotel-clean, more like a dusty home that’s been sitting unused for a couple of weeks, with the smell you’d expect. There’s no artificial ventilation.

We had a nice stay, and the reception lady deserves a lot of credit. She was friendly when we had invoice problems and even took a group photo for us. The place has a great location, and the apartments feel like real homes, right down to having guests’ names beside the doors. The extra beds were too hard for my liking, and there was no shampoo or shower gel. We also never worked out the complicated light switches in the rooms. There’s room to improve, but we had a very positive experience with reception.

We found the rooms spotless and very quiet, with most of them facing a nicely decorated courtyard. The hotel is a romantic little place in the heart of the beautiful "holländer Viertel" of Potsdam, with rooms that are cleverly and uniquely designed. Each has a small kitchenette, and guests can also use the large shared kitchen and dining area.

Avoid this place. The rooms were awful, and the one advertised for four couldn’t fit all of us, so two people had to find a hotel. The bathroom was only accessible through the bedroom, the fridge didn’t work, and there was no AC or fan. We’d booked months ahead and given our arrival time, but still waited outside with our suitcases for 45 minutes in 30C. When staff finally showed up, they were rude, didn’t apologize, and barked at us as if we were a nuisance. Horrible experience.
