Hotel Ferien vom Ich

The Wi-Fi was a complete letdown. It didn't work at all, and the staff already knew there was a problem but never warned me. That's a big deal when Wi-Fi is advertised. Still, we chose this place mainly for the swimming pool, and it was good. The location is great for exploring the Bayerisher Wald. We also got coupons for Wald Wipfel Weg with the room, which was already on our plan for the next day. That was enough to lift my rating quite a bit.

The buffet was tasty and generally good, though it was a hassle having to lift the lids just to see what was available. The holiday decorations were a lovely touch, with themed napkins and little gifts on the table. I also thought €4 for a glass of tap water was much too expensive. Our room had a broken lamp, and with no elevator we had to carry our bags quite a way. Still, the building was clean and tidy, and we felt welcome and comfortable. Dogs are warmly welcomed too, which is great for animal lovers. The hotel has a special retro charm, and it’s a handy base for getting to lots of places in the Bavarian Forest. Aside from those small problems, we had a very pleasant stay and could really unwind there. A cozy, dog-friendly place with a personal atmosphere.

What made the stay hard for me was how little there was to do inside the hotel when the weather was cold, dark, and wet. In spring or summer, with more activities around, it would probably suit us better. We didn’t feel much coziness, even though I’ve been comfortable in other guesthouses with the same rating and price. Maybe I would’ve minded less in warmer weather, when all I need after a day out is a shower and a bed. The place is inexpensive, and what’s there is clean, functional, and adequate, but no more than that. The swimming pool and sauna worked fine. Breakfast and the dinner buffet were okay. Our attic room was okay too, though it had just one chair and no proper seating. On arrival we had to look around for someone in charge. At least staff dealt with requests and problems quickly. The blankets were too thin for winter, but after a particularly cold night we were given extra pillows and blankets. Our room was freezing when we arrived and took a long time to warm up. A warmer welcome would’ve been nice. Breakfast could use more variety: there were four kinds of bologna and sliced cheese, but some salami, ham, and soft cheeses would have improved it. Dogs can’t relieve themselves in the entrance area or outside the neighboring houses, which is understandable. But we couldn’t see any easy-to-reach walking paths or forest entrances nearby, making quick trips outside with the dog in the early morning or late evening difficult.

The room has been quiet and clean both times I've stayed, and it’s easy to take lovely excursions nearby. Breakfast is great and dinner is excellent. I’ve already been twice and always enjoy it. Everything suits me, so I’m going back for the Corpus Christi holiday. I’d highly recommend the hotel and will probably come again.
