The food was the best part. Everything tasted amazing, and the portions were good. I also liked being able to ask for more noodles, sauce, or other parts of a dish. Compliments to the cooks. Still, the service and organization were really poor. We waited 20 minutes before ordering, then another 30 for our drinks. One soup was forgotten, and dessert took 45 minutes to arrive. We spent about three hours there, which just doesn't seem right. There was a salad buffet. The vegetarian in our family ordered a salad and was given a plate to choose whatever she wanted from it. I wondered what everyone else was meant to do, since they had ordered large garden salads with beef or chicken. The staff seemed all over the place. The women were trying hard to work quickly and do a good job, while the men I saw mostly talked to others and served one dish at a time. That's why I can only give the restaurant two stars. This review is about the restaurant, not the hotel. We went on Easter Sunday.

Villach worked really well as a base for our day trips to ljubliana and lake bled. The hotel is right in the centre and within walking distance of the train station. We arrived early and could leave our luggage there. Our room was spacious for three, with a big bathroom, and was easy to get to. Breakfast was amazing, with something for everyone.

The beer was okay, and so was the salad. It wasn't very expensive, but I wouldn't recommend this small hotel and restaurant. The place feels old fashioned, and not in a charming way. The Käsespätzle tasted like Spätzle with Kaffeesahne and barely any cheese, with very few onions. I've had better at the restaurant where I work. Don't ask for a cappuccio at breakfast. We couldn't use a garage for our bikes, which was bad. The staff also seemed kind of unfriendly and were hard to understand.

Almost a year on, I still remember the pesto. The food was very good, especially the spinach pesto, which I'd recommend. My wife and I stayed one night on the way to Wurzburg after visiting Baldern Castle. Ordering was a little tricky because some employees didn't speak much English and my German isn't great. The younger employees spoke English fluently. I'd rather have good food at a good price than fluent English speakers.
