Altstadthotel Der Patrizier

I had a super cool room on one of the top floors of this historic hotel, with exposed brick, wooden beams, and a great view over the rooftops of the historic district. It was clean and comfortable, and the service was friendly. The location made it easy to explore the town. I’d absolutely recommend this place to friends and family.

The location puts you right in the center of everything, and with the windows closed there was complete silence in the room, even though it was very loud outside downstairs around 11-12 pm. The rooms are nice and clean, with AC and touch controls for the lights. Breakfast was acceptable: the fried egg and omelette were very good, but the fruit and vegetables weren’t great quality or always fresh, and there wasn’t much variety. Room cleaning seems to happen around breakfast time, 7.30-10.00, or 8.00-10.30 on weekends, which is very early for me. We usually left between 11.30 and 12.30, perhaps too late, but housekeeping never came to change the towels or clean. This is the first hotel where that’s happened to us.

The breakfast buffet had lots of variety, and everything is within walking distance thanks to the absolutely ideal location. The room was wonderful. There is an elevator, though there were still a few steps to reach my room.

The pub’s cozy and well located, and the staff were friendly. Still, waiting 10 to 15 minutes for the check felt too long. I asked whether they could make a Moccaccino even though it wasn’t on the menu. They said yes, but it came out much more like a cappuccino than a proper Moccaccino. When I asked for a receipt, I was told the system was down. The waitress wrote something on a scrap of paper, with no date or stamp. To be clear, I’m talking about the ground-floor pub, not the hotel upstairs. Nice atmosphere and people, but the service didn’t feel very professional. I’d hope for a smoother visit if I came back.
