The rooms were just okay for the price, with no tissues and not much provided beyond hand soap, shampoo, and shower gel. We did get a mini fridge and a small balcony, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The shower was average, and the chocolate left on the bed was a nice touch. Still, the location and the rest of the hotel make up for the basic rooms. We had a great birthday party in the club room. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the perfectly cooked and seasoned roast beef. The wine list is impressive, and our server kept our glasses topped up 😁. The breakfast buffet was also very good, with lots of choices. I appreciated that the food was fresh, local, and often organic. You can taste the difference, and we’d come back just to eat here again. The location is great, and the dining areas are lovely.

The service put us off coming back. The man at reception was rude and unwelcoming, which made for a bad first impression, and the woman serving breakfast seemed miserable, unfriendly, and irritable. There were good points: breakfast was very good, the bed was comfortable, and the shower worked well. Our room was on the small side, and the bathroom looked dated. We were also bothered by TV noise from other rooms. The hotel itself is quite reasonable, but we certainly wouldn’t return.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hotel has been renovated and is kept in meticulous condition. What really stands out, though, is the food and drink. Moritz, the owner, puts together a thoughtful wine list, and his passion for wine comes through in the choices. Prices are among the best in Germany, especially for bottles from top German producers like Keller, Huber and Bürklin-Wolf. The food is well prepared, straightforward, and good value. Hotel Stadt Kassel is a hidden gem for anyone who loves food and wine in the charming town of Rinteln. If you’re nearby, it’s worth taking a small detour. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

I came back after a few years. The room was okay, though not particularly nice, and the hotel still wasn’t bad. The rooms are in a separate building, so you have to go outside to get to breakfast, which would be unpleasant in the rain. Breakfast is now poor, with only three hot dishes, bacon, sausages, and omelette, no croissants, and just bread. They said they had hot chocolate one day, then told me the next day they only had coffee. There was only cold milk with sugar, no Nesquik or other cocoa. The service was horrible, and they lie. Breakfast and service matter a lot to me, so I’ve changed my rating from 5 to 3.
