Kurhotel Sanddorn

The view from the top floor was truly beautiful, and the cleanliness was okay for us apart from the windows. Warnemünde itself is really beautiful, but I’d avoid the Hotel Sanddorn. The service was abysmal and unfriendly. Reception was never staffed, and even for breakfast or any small issue we had to go over to the Hotel Stolteraa. We only learned this after arriving, with no information beforehand. If we’d known, we’d never have booked this “hotel.” The point of booking a hotel with breakfast is to avoid walking several hundred metres in the morning. We’d have been better off just going to a nice breakfast place. The mattresses were so hard we could barely sleep. The TV was broken, and nobody gave us the Wi-Fi password. At checkout, we were told there was an extra €12 per night for parking. They could have mentioned that during booking or check-in. As it was, it felt like we’d been ripped off.

Breakfast was included during my stay, and it was very generous, served in the dining room with a view of the Baltic Sea. The room was adequate for two nights and practically furnished. There was no heating in the bathroom, and the TV channels were misaligned. Reception wasn’t staffed around the clock, though there was a bell to contact the service staff. Some areas of the hotel have been renovated, while others still need modernizing. The price-performance ratio is really good.

Warnemünde is always worth visiting, but do yourselves a favor and stay somewhere else. We’ve never had such a bad place to stay, or such a disappointing breakfast. The staff were really poor, and seemed unable to do their jobs. The hall and room carpets were dirty, there was dust, and the shower wouldn’t drain. We changed rooms, but the drain was still a problem. Breakfast was a small selection of counted rolls, like cardboard, and no scrambled eggs. The coffee was good, at least. I don’t want to say more, just give this place a wide berth.

The sea view was the one thing I liked. The hotel has plenty of potential, which makes the stay all the more disappointing. Reception was never staffed, the owner wasn’t especially friendly, and the courtyard felt creepy. I don’t understand how it got three stars. It felt more like a tourist trap, and I can’t recommend it.
