Gasthof Butz

We only ate at the Gasthof, we didn’t stay there. The cosy restaurant was comfortable, our table beside the old Kamin was nicely placed, and the friendly staff kept everything running smoothly. As we say in Finland, like a toilet of a train. My partner ordered the "Dreierlei gebackene Käse mit Salaten". It was pretty standard for that kind of dish and didn’t leave a strong impression. My "Leberknödelsuppe" was delicious, with a pleasant liver taste and a very traditional feel. I tried carp for the first time in my life, at 54, prepared as "Karpfenfilet blau". The kitchen did a great job, though the plain carp tasted quite different from perch or other lake fish. With butter sauce and "Petersiliekartoffeln", it was tasty. I’m glad I gave it a try. A pleasant meal, four out of five for the food from me. Thank you.

We only had one night, and the hotel’s location in the city center made it easy to explore Rothenburg. It was fairly priced, and both the outside and inside have a quaint look that fits the old town perfectly. The restaurant served absolutely delicious food as soon as we arrived. Everyone working there was friendly and welcoming. Our room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was perfectly adequate. I can highly recommend staying here.

We stumbled on this lovely place during a short trip through town, a little away from the main tourist route. The menu has vegetarian choices and a good selection for kids, plus seasonal dishes. When we visited in August, there were chanterelle dishes. The authentic Franconian food was delicious, and clearly cooked and served with care. Highly recommend!

The pork knuckle was wonderfully crispy, and unbelievably delicious with dumplings. It goes great with a Bavarian beer. Highly recommend that combination.
