Zeller Hof

I won't book this place after the way we were treated. We were considering staying and had only taken a couple of steps along the private property's road to look at the building and grounds from behind. A farmer shouted at us and chased us away rudely, without letting us explain that we meant no harm and only wanted to look. He made clear it was his land, which we never disputed, and pointed to a sign saying access was for guests only. He could have handled it more professionally, perhaps inviting us to look from around the corner, describing the place, then politely asking us not to go further in case we disturbed guests. I would also have understood being told not to take our dogs onto the meadow, but that wasn't mentioned, and we were already on the road. The encounter made the accommodation unappealing for a future stay.

The Zeller couple looked after us so well. We especially loved the breakfast room and the conservatory, with their lovely views across meadows and mountains.

This is a small, charming guesthouse with lovely hosts and a fantastic setting, rather than a five-star wellness hotel, and the value for money is excellent. Our modern, clean room and the free sauna, which we had all to ourselves, made us comfortable. Breakfast was just right for us. The area is wonderful for hiking, and there are plenty of cross-country skiing options too. A small ski area is five minutes away by car; the indoor pool, restaurants, and Ruhpolding are all within a 20-minute walk. The guesthouse is open May to October, though if you call ahead, you can certainly get a room in winter as well.

The natural pool was large and crystal clear, and the spa area was fantastic. We got so comfortable at Zeller Hof that we extended our holiday, and now it's sadly ending tomorrow. The farm is beautiful and its setting incredible. Resi and Sepp Zeller were incredibly kind and always helpful.
