The balcony and good-sized room were a real plus, and breakfast was served in a bright, spacious dining room. Check-in was easy and stress-free. I’d stay here again and recommend it.

What made my stay memorable was the cats around the hotel. Each evening I’d walk nearby and at least two friendly cats would come say hello and show me around. Cats where I’m from aren’t nearly so comfortable with people, and I absolutely adore them, so that was special. The place is also a good-value option for visiting Salzburg, just a few minutes from Austria. My room was cozy and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was small but had what I needed, and both the restaurant and scenery were lovely. The bathroom water pressure was weak, so I often had to flush more than once. One towel had stains, though I think they were old and it had still been washed. Overall, a great stay for the price.

We were there for two weeks around the end of September and start of October, and the town was beautiful. The rooms were very clean, the staff were wonderful, and the food was fresh and delicious, breakfast included. My partner and I speak very little German, but the staff went out of their way to help us. One morning I slept in, and the waitress sent my boyfriend back with my usual breakfast.

The people in town were friendly, and I even swapped a uniform patch with the local Fire Department. Getting used to the walks took a bit, and Frielassing is about 30 minutes away on foot, though getting around as a tourist wasn’t bad once I learned the bus schedule. This was my first trip to Germany, and I had a really good time. The staff seemed to care about us, and I appreciated that they patiently helped me practice German. I sometimes worry about how American tourists are perceived, but everyone was kind. The morning woman greeted us every day. I wish I’d known enough German to ask her name, and I’ll always remember looking forward to learning from her. The afternoon staff were just as patient while I stumbled through the language. One woman seemed hesitant to serve us because she didn’t speak English, but the service was still excellent and the food was great. We booked two weeks in Germany for my girlfriend, who’d always wanted to visit, and me. The rate was reasonable, and we had room 9. There was nobody at check-in, so finding the key was a little tricky, but it was in an outside key box and we got to bed, as it was very late. The room was great and the bed really comfortable. I’d read complaints about the water temperature, and the shower could scald you if you weren’t careful. We visited in October, around Munich Oktoberfest, and the room temperature was good. I can’t fault the place, though everyone’s experience is their own. If I returned to the area, I’d consider staying at the Gasthof again.
