Nordseehostel Am Bahnhof

We were lucky to catch the public breakfast, which is also open to outside guests. There was an excellent selection, especially the cold cuts like cheese and salami. You could watch the scrambled eggs being made fresh in the open kitchen, which was a nice touch. The room was large and cozy, and surprisingly quiet for somewhere so close to the train station. My partner found the mattress a little too soft, and the bathroom mirror sat low for someone 1.85 m tall, so I had to bend a bit to see myself. 😄 Before arriving, the communication was really pleasant, and we got a super friendly welcome when we stayed for one night. They let us bring our suitcase to the room early, which was handy since we were continuing our journey right after arrival. It feels more like a hotel than a hostel, with lovely nautical decor and traces of the old train station that give it a special charm. A pleasant stay with nice people and a lovely atmosphere. We'd love to come back!

We had a very pleasant stay at the North Sea Hostel, and our dog was made very welcome. Free parking was right outside, and the staff were very friendly. With a child and dog, everything was straightforward. The dog beach in Hooksiel is fantastic and easy to reach by car. The location was quiet too: we hardly heard the station or trains, and it was quieter than some hotels. Our double room was spacious, clean, and very nice, with everything we needed. A little more kitchen crockery would help, or the missing pieces could be replaced. The bathroom whirlpool wasn't working during our stay, which was a real shame. The mobile home was great as well, though it got very hot in summer and could use air conditioning. The double room was fairly priced, especially for peak season. By comparison, the mobile home for two adults and one child felt a bit overpriced. We would definitely stay again and can wholeheartedly recommend it. Thanks to the North Sea Hostel for a truly pleasant stay, and for great accommodation at an affordable price!

I especially want to praise the reception staff. They were very friendly. The nautical decor was nicely done, and for the price the room was perfectly acceptable, nothing too serious. It was a bit worn, though: rusty bathroom fixtures, and laminate flooring and baseboards that had seen better days. The heating wasn't working, or was broken, and I was cold in November with snow outside.

The friendly reception and free parking were welcome, but nowhere near enough to make up for the serious problems. The tiny house at the North Sea Hostel in Sande was in very poor shape. Mold covered the fixed window and curtain, and was also under the shower mat and on the bathroom skylight. Two windows leaked, which pointed to poor maintenance. The bathroom door was so warped it wouldn't close, and some furniture was broken. The shower water was connected incorrectly, making it difficult to use, and the silicone sealant was damaged too. The idea of offering a tiny house is nice, but the execution was disastrous and the lack of maintenance was glaring. In its current state, I absolutely can't recommend it. This area urgently needs a thorough renovation and better upkeep.
