The setting was lovely, and the salad was really tasty and full of flavor. Service was quick, though the server seemed overwhelmed. The schnitzel and fries had no seasoning at all. I might visit again at another time.

The soup and salads were good, and the service was excellent. Some of the food was pretty good, though the flammenkuchen was obviously frozen and prepacked. I think we were charged a little too much, so check the prices and whether there’s an extra charge for service or sitting outside.

You’re just meters from the ferry, tour boats, and train, and many rooms and the dining area look out toward the castle and water. It’s an old guesthouse, but very clean. Our room was dated, though spacious and comfortable. Booking directly includes a very large continental breakfast, and I thought it was good value for the region. I’d stay again. It was raining, so we ate at the hotel one evening. The brat and schnitzel choices were basic and reasonably priced. My husband liked his meal, but my vegetarian dish cost 18.90 euro and everything on the plate seemed to come from the freezer. I wouldn’t have dinner there again.

We picked this restaurant for lunch during our tour through the Rhein, since St. Goar looked like a pretty town. We sat outside. A man took our order and the drinks came, then our meal arrived after a short wait. We had to ask for cutlery, and the young lad went inside. We found it ourselves on a console table. Once we’d started eating so the food wouldn’t get cold, he came back with cutlery and seemed annoyed we’d already found our own. The meal was okay, nothing special. My schnitzel and chips were meant to come with a salad, but it never arrived. Near the end of my meal, I got the waiter’s attention and told him. He offered to bring it, but I said there was no need since I was nearly finished. When the bill came, we had to wait for the man to return so we could pay. He then told us they only accepted cash. I said customers should be told before ordering. He was unfriendly and implied he didn’t have time, adding that it was in the menu. I couldn’t find it there, and didn’t think that was acceptable. He didn’t seem to care. Fortunately, we had some cash. Two Americans who overheard us got up to leave, saying they had none. If the hotel only wants cash, I’d suggest a small ‘Cash Only’ sign on each table, not just a notice in German. Places that rely on tourists need to make people feel welcome and improve the customer experience. With online reviews, business can go downhill quickly. I hope the restaurant reads this and considers the suggestion. Some staff training on dealing with customers wouldn’t hurt either.
