Hotel Sauerlacher Post

We stopped here overnight while driving across Europe and wish we hadn’t. After midnight, the huge complex was completely deserted, with poor or no lighting in shared areas. It felt like the Overlook Hotel, and I wouldn’t feel safe there alone. The apartment rooms were very tired, the atmosphere was unwelcoming, and there was junk outside our door. The beds were okay and we slept well, but there are many better choices at this price. When we went to pay, the receptionist told us to email the boss because she knew there were problems. Then the coffee machine was broken, so there was no coffee. Avoid it.

We slept well and it was quiet, and having private parking was great. The staff were friendly and spoke English well. The rooms were okay, if not impressive, and the apartments had an odd smell. There was no balcony, air conditioning, or bath. For the price, it was acceptable but nothing special. Finding the entrance, exit, garage, and reception was a real struggle among all the separate buildings, with too few signs. Other guests were lost too, and using emergency exits as regular exits made things confusing.

The breakfasts were superb. It’s a beautifully renovated post office building, though a little farther from Munich.

I made an honest mistake while booking from Kanada on a Friday night through booking.com, entering dates one month earlier than I meant to. I caught it within 19 hours, but was already two hours past the free cancellation deadline. I asked to move the booking to the dates a month later, and the property refused by email and again on the phone. Booking.com supported my request, but the property kept saying booking.com was my contract partner instead of trying to help. This went back and forth several times, and I’ve never had an experience like it. The three booking.com representatives I spoke with over the next few days were surprisingly helpful and made an effort, though they depended on the property. I ended up paying the full 90% fee and booked somewhere else for my upcoming trip. The place looks appealing, but I can’t recommend it. This is one of my first negative reviews, and I almost feel bad posting it, but I hope it helps someone. There are other places that would value your business more.
