Ferienhaus Schwalbennest Schalkenmehren

From the big balcony there are lovely panoramic views, and the house makes a great base for bike rides, hikes, and other outings around the Volcanic Eifel. It’s peaceful at the edge of the village, but the center and the volcanic lake with its outdoor pool are only a five-minute walk away. The holiday home is cozy, attractive, and well cared for. We felt welcome and comfortable, had everything we needed, and the owners were incredibly friendly. Dogs are warmly welcomed, too :-)

We stayed in the Schwalbennest for two weeks and felt very much at home. The bathroom and kitchen are a little dated, but everything is impeccably maintained, and the owners clearly make cleanliness a priority. They’re also incredibly friendly and helpful. Our dogs were welcome as well, which we especially appreciated since Paul is such a big dog. We’ll definitely return!

A week wasn’t nearly long enough, so we’ll plan more time next visit. From August 13th to 20th, 2021, we stayed at the "Schwalbennest" in Schalkenmehren and loved it from the start. The spacious, very clean house sits in a beautiful, quiet spot, and the hosts are exceptionally friendly. Our two dogs were welcome, and they found the view from the large balcony quite exciting. There’s plenty of hiking nearby, a good range of restaurants in Schalkenmehren, and good roads for road cycling. Other lovely places, including Monschau, are also worth visiting within a 1 to 1.5-hour drive.

The Schwalbennest is a cozy, very clean place for a family holiday in the Volcanic Eifel, especially if you’re traveling with dogs. We had a wonderful stay, and the owners were friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend it! 😊
