I left without staying the night because I felt unsafe. There were no other guests' cars in the car park, and something felt seriously wrong. The whole experience was traumatic, and I feel I have to raise it with Booking.com. I'm a British motorcyclist touring Germany from the UK, and I've travelled widely, staying in hotels in the USA, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, France, Belgium, Holland and the UK. I'm courteous, considerate and mild-mannered, and I don't like confrontation. At the door, a woman initially acted as if she didn't know why I was there. She eventually let me into the hallway, then started shouting at me in German, saying they didn't speak English. A man joined in, also shouting that they spoke only German. I showed the woman my booking. She beckoned me upstairs, shouted again while showing me the bathroom, and rolled her eyes and muttered as if she thought I was stupid. Then she showed me the room. When I asked whether there was food or tea at the hotel, she shouted some more and walked away. My heart was racing, so I took off my waterproofs and went to the next town to get food at MacDonalds. While there, I decided I wouldn't feel safe spending the night with two people who seemed hostile and might have had a problem with my British accent or with me being a motorcyclist. I booked a room somewhere else and returned for my things. The door was double-locked, my key didn't work, and I had to ring the bell. A window upstairs opened, followed by more shouting and contempt. The man came down, yelled at me loudly in German, and bawled at me to get out when I stepped slightly inside a side door. I got my waterproof jacket from my room, left the key on the hall table and went. My phone satnav was nearly dead, so I had to go back to Macdonalds to charge it. I nearly ended up completely lost in rural Germany. The second host was very kind to let me in at short notice and outside their normal hours.
