My friends and I especially loved the homemade brawn with those delicious fried potatoes. I've been eating here on holiday since 1989, and the food is excellent, with regional touches. Sadly, the place we used to stay in the village was demolished three years ago and turned into commercial property.

The view is absolutely stunning, though the inn is very remote. The landlady and the whole atmosphere feel grumpy and down-to-earth. We waited a long time for our food, which we assume is all freshly made, and the portions seemed quite "modest." I felt unsure about the wooden terrace, though I'm sure that worry is unfounded.

The location high on the mountain is fantastic, with a breathtaking view, and our second-floor room looked out beautifully. We had emailed about bringing our dog, but the message hadn't been properly read, so our arrival was confusing. The owner seemed a little grumpy, and we missed feeling welcome. The room was well equipped, but had a musty smell, as did the rest of the hotel. You get used to it, though even the lovely spring beds and pillows smelled musty. Breakfast was limited and meager, but the bread was fresh and tasty, with ham and cheese. I don't think there are restaurants nearby, so having the hotel's own kitchen is a real help. The à la carte menu is fairly standard. The location is so good that a bit of fresh air in the inn could make a big difference.

We came for dinner with little kids and had a lovely meal. There was a good choice, the food was tasty, the landscape view was magnificent, and the landlady was great with children. I really don't get the negative reviews. Four stars are fair, and I'll add a fifth to counter the silliness of that one-star rating 😘

The Nesselbach Valley view is wonderful and well worth coming for. Anyone fond of a 70s feel might enjoy the place, too. My fried potatoes were good, freshly made with sautéed onions and seasoning, though the serving was small. The homemade head cheese was barely sour and under-seasoned, and the remoulade came from a tube. The meal was edible, but not tasty. Even on the second try, the apple spritzer was flat, and the pilsner was clearly warm and had no fizz. I could recommend coming for the view and maybe coffee, though I skipped the coffee.
