The spa was nice, and so was the food. We booked the “small holiday” arrangement a week ahead and had a very nice break at this country-style hotel. Our room was big, with a nice bathroom, and the owners and staff were very, very friendly. Step outside and you’re straight into the forest, with miles of walking trails. A real gem in the Hochsauerland countryside. We’ll certainly come back, maybe later in the season to see Gut Vorwald in spring or summer.

Our room, number 12, had a broken window, and we could feel the cold coming through it. We also didn’t get any information at check-in, so we didn’t know what facilities the hotel had or the hours for breakfast, the restaurant, and Sauna. A clear information card for English-speaking guests would’ve helped. Even with those issues, it was an amazing, cozy little cocoon. We loved the peaceful, tucked-away setting and our weekend there. We took our dog for a hike around the hotel through the snow, and it was gorgeous, like being in a movie.

A lovely Gasthaus in a beautiful setting. You can start out on great walks from here and finish with a bear, lunch, or dinner. I had a light lunch and really enjoyed it. In summer, you can go horse riding from here. Highly recommend.

A local gave us the tip about this lovely place, a little hidden away. It’s a great choice if you want to get out into nature. There’s a 3-star hotel and a very good German food restaurant, with a pure nature view from the restaurant. The food quality is really good, prices are okay, and the staff are very friendly.
