Motel Hormersdorf

It’s an easy walk from this motel to the venue, which worked well for our visit to KNRD Fest. It’s my first time in Germany. The rooms had what we needed, the water pressure was excellent, the food was delicious, and the staff were super friendly.

I liked the rooms when I first walked in, and they were clean and nice. But the night was rough: we spent two hours killing hundreds of gnats, small flies, and mosquitoes, then couldn’t sleep in the warm room without ventilation. I appreciated management responding first thing the next morning. They offered a good breakfast with plenty of choices, including gluten-free bread, and gave us complimentary espresso and cappuccino to apologize for the bad night. In summer, with no AC or fans, it gets uncomfortable when it’s hot and opening the windows isn’t an option because of bugs. I understand air conditioning wasn’t advertised, and that bugs are expected in a nature area. Still, screens on the windows or portable fans seem like simple, low-cost fixes. I felt a little disrespected during our discussion. I didn’t need a lesson about bugs; I was just describing what happened during my stay.

The location is quiet and has a relaxed feel, and the buffet breakfast is amazing. Rooms are large and comfortable, and the restaurant serves simple food that’s very nicely prepared and presented. The staff are friendly and speak English. Contractors and workers use the motel, so the car park can fill up with vans and trucks, though there’s enough space to handle them.

For the price, it’s hard to go wrong here. The rooms are cozy for a party of three, but clean and comfortable. My only small gripe was the very tight shower. The property is well kept, easy to reach, and has ample parking. Breakfast was plentiful, with lots of choices, and the service was prompt and super friendly. In context, this was an easy five-star stay for us. It’s a pretty standard German bed-and-breakfast breakfast, and the hotel might not rate five stars in a major world city, but a comparable stay there would cost far more. Well done, M Hormersdorf.
