Alpenhof Punzenlehen

Our apartment was comfortably furnished and clean, with a well-equipped kitchen and everything we needed. The owners were very friendly, and Schönau am Königssee is a beautiful village. Alpenhof Punzenlehen is quiet and has lovely mountain views.

We had a delightful surprise at Alpenhof Punzenlehen and would love to come back. It’s tucked away with mountain views, but everything is easy to reach, even on foot, and there’s parking at the house. The owners are very friendly. The master bedroom is large and cozy. The smaller bedroom has a bunk bed, a desk, a French door onto a little balcony, and a small window with a view from the top bunk. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped, with a balcony and two windows looking out. The bathroom is comfortable and well ventilated. Berchtesgaden and Salzburg are nearby, and Königssee is beautiful, with wonderful boat trips and delicious food and drinks. You can see where Ludwig Ganghofer found inspiration. Once you get around to reading his books, it’s hard not to be amazed by how interesting and well written they are. It also makes you wonder how little of his fame is known in his homeland.

The hosts are kind, friendly and helpful, and Alpenhof Punzenlehen makes a wonderful base for hikes in the national park. Lake Königssee is no more than a 30-minute walk away. The spacious apartments are cozy, with traditional Bavarian furnishings that suit the historic Punzenlehen farmhouse, plus free Wi-Fi. The house also has stunning, unobstructed views of the Schönau and Berchtesgaden mountains, including Jenner, Hohes Brett and Hoher Göll, with the Kehlstein in the foreground. Highly recommended!

The landlady was very friendly and accommodating, and the apartment was spotless with everything needed for cooking and washing up. The mountain views are fantastic. The walk from the bus stop can be confusing at first, but once you find the little meadow path it’s fine. We happily walked the roughly 2.5 km to Königssee, which also gave us a glimpse of Schönau.
