AKZENT Hotel Kaltenbach

Hotel Kaltenbach was a lovely stop on our motorbike trip to Italy, and we've stayed there twice. The food and drinks were fantastic, the rooms lovely, and the location truly beautiful. Melanie is a superb host. We're planning another stop later this year 😎

The wifi was very weak in several parts of the room and property, so they could improve the internet access with some additional routes. We stayed one night in a four-person suite, and it was surprisingly big, with two separate rooms, a lovely balcony, a large toilet, wardrobe, dining table and chairs, TV, fridge, and a nice yellow theme. It seems to be a family business, and most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was okay, with the usual choices, hot drinks, and eggs served at the table. The highlight was the warm indoor swimming pool, including heated water and indoor area, plus a jacuzzi, outdoor pool, steam bath area with three treatment rooms, massage area, and tanning machine. The only catch was that it was open from 7am to 7pm, so we had to plan our time. A wonderful place to stay.

The payment was a hassle since credit cards weren't accepted, only cash or an EU bank card. The wifi was poor around the hotel except near the office. In room 19, the toilet was squeezed between the bathtub and shower glass, making it impossible to sit on, though luckily we could use another room. Breakfast included hard bread that seemed to be three days old, and it looked like two people had to run the whole place. Everything shut way too early: the sauna after 7 pm, dinner orders impossible after 5 pm, and the bar closed at 8 pm. Auf nie wieder sehen here.

The host made us feel like we were staying in someone's home, not just another hotel. They spoke English, let us practice our German, and were wonderful. We loved the traditional German breakfasts and dinner menus, and never left hungry. There was plenty of free parking, and we enjoyed both the outdoor wading spa pool and indoor pool. It's a great spot for couples or families, set among rolling hills away from noisy road traffic. Triberg is a short drive away, and Freiberg is about an hour away. My wife and I will visit again.
