The mattress really needs replacing. Staff are super friendly, though. Breakfast is a bit expensive, but there's a good choice, and the lady serving drinks was lovely. Vegan and gluten-free options are possible too.

The room was pleasant but small, and the mattresses need replacing. Breakfast had a wide selection, with friendly service. It's a beautiful hotel by the lake. I'd visit again once the mattresses have been renewed.

We didn't realize there was a bar until our third night. With the lovely patio and garden beside the lake, a cool glass of wine there on a summer evening would be paradise. I understand staffing and costs are factors, but with an effective rota it seems possible. At breakfast we usually saw three people managing a buffet that could be run by one, with another bringing out the cooked food. I used to work for a Caterer for the Royal Family, and this is the hotel's weakest area. The staff work hard and are loyal, but management should be reassessed to help them function better. It has no Gymnasium. The rooms are wonderful, clean and impressive, and the staff are lovely. Some people say they aren't friendly, but I'd say have a chat with them rather than expecting them to jump through hoops just because you're a guest. They do like to talk. It's a developing Castle Hotel, with beautiful renovation that keeps its style. Breakfast offers plenty of choice, and the dining rooms have comfortable spacing. The lakefront setting is a big plus, great for watching the sunrise or sunset. The pomp and glamour of staying here is fantastic, and the service is good quality. It would also be nice to have a few social activities during the week, perhaps an outdoor BBQ evening or wine tasting. That could help guests mingle and give staff more chances to interact.

This was the most disappointing and stressful stay I've had. It was nothing like the relaxing weekend away we had pictured, and I won't return. After hiking in the rain, we hoped to relax in the library because the café was full. We were told it was out of order, hadn't been cleaned after an event the day before, and wouldn't be cleaned until the following week. There was barely any toiletries in the room, just something like hand soap labeled as shower gel, so we had to drive 20min to find an open shop and buy our own. The room was below standard too, with broken parts on the shower bar, the silicone on the shower doors, and the hair dryer, plus stains on the wall. Housekeeping knocked at 09:00, before our 09:30 breakfast booking. We asked her to come back later and put the cleaning sign on the door, but nobody returned. At 4pm we went to reception, where they asked, "well, what needs to be done?” Someone was eventually sent, but the toilet rolls and tissues weren't replenished. The service from both staff and the managing director was unfriendly and unprofessional. We spoke to the director, who neither apologized nor offered any compensation for the problems. They also charged us for two extra breakfasts by mistake, and it took 10 days to get our money back.
