Hotel Scholl Garni

A very cozy hotel, with an excellent breakfast.

Scholl had the upscale feel we wanted at a more affordable price than the other downtown lodging options we found. The beautiful building is in a great location, and check-in and check-out were smooth and pleasant. There’s one large shared mini bar on the main floor rather than one in the room. In the very hot July weather, our room felt quite stuffy. We didn’t ask whether they could lend us a fan.

The staff were super nice and helpful, and the town itself is beautiful. We slept okay, and the floors and buildings are lovely, but the basics were missing for the price. There was no coffee or tea making setup, which we hadn’t come across in over four months of travel. The restaurant and bar are still closed, so food means heading down the hill. The Google pictures don’t match reality. We had no view, as the photo shows, and there was no air movement during two days when daytime temperatures reached 36⁰. No fan or AC either. The room and hotel were very basic, and I expected more from such a historic place. I wouldn’t stay again.

The rooms really are all different. My colleague had the tiny room 303, while I stayed in the large 2-bed room 312, with a spacious bathroom. The hotel itself is beautiful, cozy, and stylish, and the boss was friendly and very open. Breakfast was delicious, though if you’re really hungry, order two courses. Keep in mind they don’t serve breakfast on Fridays. I recommend this hotel!
