We tried the sauna area and enjoyed all four types of sauna. The hotel has the kind of facilities you'd expect for families with children. Breakfast was in the restaurant, but there weren't enough seats there, so some tables had been put in the hallway. That might have been fine if the lamps had brighter bulbs. It was hard to see what we were eating :-)

The comfort was very low, and it felt far too expensive for the service. The pool and sauna are in separate buildings. One plus, though: fresh waffles at breakfast. The bar's drink prices were acceptable.

Free parking right at the hotel and a quiet spot surrounded by greenery were real pluses, with hikes easy to start from there. The scenery is beautiful, but the hotel itself has seen better days. We stayed in June 2026 hoping for a relaxing Harz Mountains weekend. The room decor looked like the late 80s, the carpet was stained, the mattresses worn out, and the walls were so thin we could hear every word from next door. There was thick dust on the wardrobe and behind the TV, plus mold in the bathroom grout. Breakfast was limited and uninspired: reheated rolls, basic cheap supermarket sausage, and extremely weak coffee. For a country hotel meant to offer regional charm, it was a poor showing. Right now, I can't give it more than 2 out of 5 stars.
