Restaurant im Hotel Brandhof

This is only about the restaurant. I’m not reviewing the hotel rooms. We’d been coming here for 30 years, and the food used to be consistently great. We even celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here. After being away for a while, we came back for the first time recently, and the meal was a real letdown. The restaurant’s service and setting were excellent. They also gave us chocolate mousse on the house, which was a 5/5, and fruit compote with cream mousse, which I’d rate 3.5/5. The chanterelle cream soup was mostly cream and salt, with hardly any mushroom taste. I’ve had plenty of delicious mushroom cream soups over the years, and this one was below average, about 2.5/5. I ordered pan-grilled chicken with pasta and my favorite chanterelle cream sauce. The chicken tasted heavily processed, not fresh or natural. I can’t say whether it had been treated with some chemical solution, but it tasted that way to me, so 1/5. The noodles were dry and bland, also 1/5. The mushroom cream sauce was a 3/5. There was some chicken bouillon mixed into the dish. The beef steak with sautéed, crisped chanterelles was disappointing too, especially since it’s a regular order for us, 2/5. The crisped chanterelles were 4/5, and the stir-fried potatoes 3/5.
