Landgasthof Krone

The honesty bar was a nice touch, and it was possible to charge an electric car, though at quite a markup. We had a big family room but the bathroom was a bit small. The room and the house could have been cleaner. Breakfast looked pretty sad, so we skipped it.

We used the hotel as a base between Castle Neuschwanstein and Rothenburg ob Der Tauber. There are some lovely local restaurants nearby, away from the beaten path, and a beautiful swimming lake. Our room was spacious, modern and very clean, and the staff were really friendly.

Our family of four had a surprisingly spacious room, with a little upper floor under the roof where the kids could play. The staff were friendly, and breakfast was nice, with a good selection of fresh bread and quality cheese. Nothing hot, though. There’s a large parking area.

It’s a good place to stop for a hearty meal, though a bit pricey. The Old restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere, decorated like a historic Bavarian/Swabian bier hall attached to a local brewery. The menu covers traditional Swabian dishes such as Käsespatzle, Schweineshaxe, Schweinebraten and Zweibelrostbraten, plus the usual Schnitzel and Cordon Blue, so there’s something for everyone. Portions are big enough that you should expect to leave with a Doggy Bag. The only things missing are traditional dumplings and an Umpah Band.
