Pension Oberschmiede

The owner was really friendly and spoke good English. The price was about 70€ less than other places in the area, and although there weren't toilets in the room, the public ones were very clean, especially on the first floor. I'd definitely stay here again 👍

We felt very comfortable in this clean, quiet house, and would happily return. The owner was so welcoming that he went out of his way to buy vegetarian ingredients and make us dinner. The meals were delicious, varied, and served in generous portions. We booked and checked in at short notice during the off-season, so the room and water weren't warm yet. They gave us a small extra heater and another blanket. The toilet and shower are along the same hallway as the room.

The location is peaceful and idyllic, and would make a good base for hiking or cycling. The owner's welcome was very friendly. We booked two single rooms at Gasthof & Pension Oberschmiede, though the rooms themselves are very basic. They're on the second floor, reached by a narrow wooden staircase and a door at the top. There was just one electrical outlet in each room, which seemed a bit precarious, and no kettle, glasses, or other small amenities. Neither toilet nor washbasin is in the room, both are shared in the hallway, so there could be a wait when several guests are around. There was also an unpleasant smell when we entered the floor, and we couldn't tell where it came from. Breakfast costs €15 per person per day and is optional. We got five slices of bread, cold cuts, tomatoes, a fried egg made with care in a small pan, dessert, and jam. There was no butter or extra bread. The coffee was instant, which was a drawback for us, though that's a matter of taste. Vegetarians should let the hotel know the night before, since otherwise there won't be an alternative. The host is friendly and the setting is lovely, and people who want very simple lodging may be comfortable here if they know what to expect. Clearer information about what's offered, a better breakfast setup, and some focused improvements to the facilities and hygiene would make a stay much more pleasant. We wish the owner success. He is clearly working hard to make this lovely house a welcoming place for tourists.

The accommodation was so noisy that our children couldn't sleep. Some workers were staying there and kept us awake all night. I didn't get to enjoy any of the food other reviewers mentioned, so the only reason I can give one star is that at least we didn't have to sleep on the street.
