After more than 15 years of staying here while working at the Technical Museum, I think it's time to find another hotel. The rooms are good and clean, and reception is friendly and efficient. But at breakfast, the staff were gathered in the kitchen chatting. I asked politely for coffee three times, and it finally arrived about 10 minutes later. When I thanked the staff member, she frowned as if I'd put her out. That's unacceptable behavior for a 4 star hotel.

I hope management rethinks this policy. Guests should be treated equally whatever their background, and during my stay I could clearly see I was treated differently from others. At check-in I was asked to write down my “country of origin.” I've stayed in hotels across Europe, and never before had that happen. They didn't ask for nationality or passport information, which is standard. It made me feel singled out because of my appearance and where my family comes from. No guest should feel judged by their looks or ancestry.

Breakfast was varied, tasty, and okay, and otherwise I had no complaints. The hotel is clean and hospitable, but be careful when booking: not every room has air conditioning. A colleague found their room too hot to sleep in and asked to move. The response was, “it's summer, how do you want it to be in the room?” I stayed at this city center hotel for a week. I'd recommend it, just not on hot days.

The room's thoughtful layout and lovely design made it feel spacious and relaxing, and the service was warm from arrival through checkout. I spent six nights here for a company event, my first visit to Speyer, and was impressed with the hotel. Speyer is charming, with a lot of history and picturesque streets. I enjoyed my time there and would gladly return. I'd recommend the hotel for business or leisure.
