African Safari Lodge

The location is lovely, with a great view, and the food is very good and creative. The wines are excellent too. The rooms are clean, though dated, with old furnishings that don’t live up to the description. There’s no hairdryer, safe, glasses or minibar. The older sauna area is okay, but it only has cold shower water. It would be nice if the sauna ran at set times in autumn and winter. 115°C is far too hot, and having to request the sauna in advance doesn’t feel very guest-friendly. Breakfast was as expected. The coffee machine was fine, and the bake-off rolls and cold cuts were edible, though nothing special. There’s very good smoked meat in the Bavarian Forest, but perhaps it costs too much to serve here. The new hotel has friendly hosts, but checkout was chaotic and took too long. I still haven’t received the invoice, either printed or by email as agreed, which does make me wonder whether the taxes are all being handled properly. On Saturday, loud guests who smoked constantly kept us awake from 1 to 3 a.m. The operators didn’t do anything, which was disappointing. You come to the Bavarian Forest to relax. The advertised serval, a wild cat, wasn’t in its enclosure as promised on the website, which was also a letdown. The house has potential and very good food, but there are issues. Much is still being built, and some things need renovation. For example, housekeeping left empty shower gel packets in the bathroom. This “hotel” feels more show than substance. I’d stay somewhere else next time, especially since the African wild cat doesn’t even exist. Fake news.

The rooms and food were particularly good, and the staff were friendly every time. Service was excellent. Definitely recommend it :)

The staff were so friendly throughout our stay. We were very satisfied and would happily recommend the place.

Looks like it’s closed again. It’s had too many owners already, and a coat of paint by itself won’t fix things.
