The public guest Wi-Fi was unreliable and only worked now and then near the hallway or outside the apartment. We never got a private connection in the bedroom. The towels were extremely worn, and the partly underground apartment smelled musty when we arrived, perhaps because it stays closed most of the time. Getting around without a car was difficult. The apartment is about 2.5 km from Berchtesgaden Bahnhof and nearly 100 meters higher up. Buses were infrequent, especially over Easter, so reaching Königssee or Berchtesgaden Zentrum could mean long walks or tiring waits. We also had trouble finding the entrance because the signs were poor. The host lives on the other side of the building and wasn’t easy to reach. A bookshelf in the bedroom seemed to connect to the other side of the building; small holes in the shelves made us uncomfortable and concerned about privacy. After booking, we didn’t receive any confirmation or acknowledgment. Our repeated messages through Booking.com went unanswered, and phone calls led to a German-language automated message, which could be stressful for someone who doesn’t speak German. We were also charged €19 more than the confirmed amount of €292 for two nights including VAT. We only noticed the extra charge after getting home and checking the bill carefully.

We left a week early. At home, I was told I’d contracted a bacterial virus after being sick for a long time and having trouble breathing. For what we paid, this place was a disgrace and absolutely not worth it. The renovation next door made the stay unbearable. A crane caused the dumping tank, and the noise from drilling, chopping, and other work started at 8 a.m., so we couldn’t hear each other. After a long day out, we came back to find the roof being cleaned and mud all over the garden. The owners next door were also noisy in their garden, and the bedroom beside the haunted house was noisy all night. The cottage was extremely dirty: there was mold in the bathroom, on the pan lids, and in the kitchen knife block. The oven and toaster were filthy too. The living room sofa bed was so hard it felt like sleeping on the floor. My son still has back problems and is having physical therapy because of it. This holiday was a huge disappointment for us.

Even with weather that wasn’t perfect, we had a wonderful week in this cozy, clean apartment. It’s new, functional, and well equipped, and our dog was welcome too. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The area is great! 👍
