The hotel was pleasantly quiet, and my room was bright with a view over the back. I could get to the balcony from the hallway. I did have to clean under the toilet seat myself, though. One person was covering reception, the restaurant, and breakfast, so service took longer than usual when a large group of motorcyclists needed attention.

I can see why the recent reviews have been negative. The food was wildly overpriced for what we got: €22.50 for three Thuringian sausages, a few fried potatoes, a can of soup, and a discount yogurt. Even being generous, it was worth half that. The motorcycle parking fee added to the frustration. There was a sour aftertaste at breakfast too, as the milk was expired and sour on two occasions. The man working tried hard but was clearly overwhelmed. Drinks I hadn't had were added to the bill, and he wouldn't discuss it. It was otherwise a nice hotel, but the staff shortage was noticeable everywhere.

The sauna was a lovely way to unwind after a cold day, and the food was good and very generous, including breakfast. The hotel is quiet, perhaps a little too quiet, and works well as a base for trips to Oberhof. Rooms are clean and adequate, though somewhat dated. Communication with the staff was generally good.

The food alone made this stay deeply disappointing. Our pork schnitzel at dinner was poor quality and, worst of all, raw inside. The owner was unfriendly and unpleasant, and even threatened legal action when we left over negative reviews containing “untruths.” I still want to warn future guests based on what we experienced. The hotel changed ownership in 2022, so I suspect its reviews reflect the previous owner. The place is extremely outdated, with no comfort to speak of. We won't be coming back.
