Seehotel Köllnitz

The rooms are decent and the staff are lovely. The fresh fish breakfast is amazing, and the authentic old-school fishmonger setup alone makes the trip worthwhile.

There’s not much around besides nature. The Köllnitz farm kitchen staff, where you collect the key, and the people in the farm shop were very friendly. Parking is free right outside the house, and the windows have fly screens.

Breakfast was a real highlight, plentiful and varied, and dinner was excellent too. The fish shop is great, though very expensive. After a few days the initial excitement about the high prices and the effort to justify them wears off, which is a shame. The location itself is still beautiful. The room was spacious, but with no TV you could hear everything from neighboring rooms and the hallway, including people’s conversations. Some areas have been updated, while other parts, especially the bathroom, feel very old, with rusty radiators. The smoking course was a complete letdown. For €80, we spent about four hours watching the staff work and chatting with them, with drinks and finger food provided. At the end we could pick one of the cheapest fish, but not eel, and got a certificate. It just wasn’t worth the price.

I’ve been coming to Großschauen for more than 20 years and still love spending hours there, whether grabbing a delicious fish sandwich from the snack bar or enjoying an evening meal in the cozy restaurant. The food is the best in all of Brandenburg, and things have improved noticeably again under the new management. If there were seven stars, the restaurant would deserve them. Lara and Christin deserve special praise for their excellent service. I finally stayed at the hotel too, something I’d wanted to do for a long time, and it went beyond my expectations. Waking up to the sounds of nature and the lake was wonderful, and the breakfast was unlike any I’d had before, with cold-cured salmon and a generous, varied spread. Thanks for a special stay. I hope to be back soon.
