Ludwig-Harms-Haus Hermannsburg

We felt right at home in the beautiful half-timbered building, with its bookstore and exhibition. The two servers were attentive and even had time for a friendly chat while we enjoyed very good pizza and pasta. Our hotel room was spacious and had a kitchenette, and we got a very warm welcome. Breakfast was first-class and had everything we could want. One thing that's a shame: Google Maps shows only a restaurant, so it's hard to tell this is a hotel. The hotel is also tucked away on www.restaurant.fachwerk.de and only shows up after some exploring.

With Auszeit in Beckedorf's kitchen currently being completely renovated, we tried the Fachwerk Restaurant in Hermannsburg for the first time today. It's the same owner, and we'll be back at Auszeit soon. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the food excellent. The whole team was friendly and attentive, always smiling, from making the reservation right through to leaving. Thanks to everyone, keep it up!

The service let us down, which was a shame because the setting has real potential. The waitress at the counter seemed annoyed when we asked for hot food, and after a long wait nobody came to our table, so we left. The Ludwig-Harms-Haus in Hermannsburg is a beautiful half-timbered house, and the "Fachwerk" has cosy furnishings, a great fireplace and a welcoming view of the garden. The cakes looked delicious. With better service, the experience could be fantastic.

We came for dinner with colleagues today and left disappointed. The menu was weak, without the good traditional German dishes you'd expect. They told us right away that the mushroom cream sauce for the Jägerschnitzel hadn't been delivered. Really? Any chef could make it fresh in 15 minutes. They were out of Bionade too. The pizza looked and tasted like it came from a frozen supermarket brand like Wagner's. The staff were friendly, and the half-timbered atmosphere and nice garden are lovely, easily worth five stars. For the bistro-quality food, though, I'd give just one. It's the food that brings you to a restaurant. If the menu and quality don't improve, I doubt the place has a future. That's only my opinion, of course. A real shame.
