House Konrad Suhl

The fast Wi-Fi made it easy to upload photos from our time in the forest, which was a nice surprise. We spent the days hiking, then grilled on the terrace in the evenings, and woke up to birdsong. The holiday home beat our expectations.

We loved heading out mountain biking right from the holiday home, while the rest of my family enjoyed mushroom hunting. The nature around us was breathtaking and so peaceful, and the house had everything we needed. We'll definitely book again.

We could set off hiking right from the house, which was fantastic. From our first evening, the place's warmth and coziness made it feel like we'd chosen exactly right.

We spent a wonderful week here and would love to return. The area has plenty of excellent hiking trails, plus skiing in winter. Restaurants nearby aren't open every day, unfortunately, but Suhl and Zella-Mehlis have lots of culinary options. There are shops close by too, so it's easy to cook for yourself. The owners gave us an exemplary introduction to the equipment and were very helpful throughout. The sturdy cottage is very quiet, set in the forest at the end of a steep path and close to the Rennsteig hiking trail. The owner kindly met us at a parking lot on the main road and drove us up, since we would probably have struggled to find the house on our own. At 70 square meters, it has plenty of room for four and feels well built. The small living room kitchenette has glasses, dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, a microwave, coffee maker, and a fridge-freezer. There's also a dining table, large satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and a two-seater sofa that's a bit too small for four ;-). The windows all have roller shutters. We enjoyed using the barbecue on the southwest-facing terrace, which has garden furniture. A hedge gives some privacy from the neighboring house, about 10 meters away. The bathroom is surprisingly well equipped, with underfloor heating and a large shower. Hot water comes from an instantaneous heater, which needs to be switched on in advance. One small drawback at night was the bright hallway light, which comes on with a motion detector. It wasn't a major problem, though. The house uses night storage heaters, so it's worth checking the forecast for the next day before setting the recharge temperature.
