Olympia Hotel Suhl

The location was perfect, and we had the whole building to ourselves, but I wouldn't personally stay again. There was no staff around and no breakfast, and the room felt old and bare. I also found mouse droppings under the bed.

For what it costs, this practical, basic accommodation was perfectly fine. We had a spacious, clean room that worked well for us as athletes traveling with a dog. There wasn't any staff on site or breakfast, which was the downside. It's just outside Suhl and easy to reach by car. The shooting range where you'll be staying was fascinating to us! :)

That large TV was the best part of the room. The rest, especially the seating area, felt very much like the old GDR, and the rooms still have that GDR look, which really disappointed me. The bathroom had a strong chemical odor, maybe from a cleaning product, and no ventilation. Shower pressure was barely more than a drizzle. I only give some of these rooms one star because the system requires it. We arrived in the afternoon, and a young man was waiting at reception to hand over the keys. Before doing that, he called his boss on speakerphone so we could hear the conversation. They asked our names, how long we were staying, and whether we were there for sports or a holiday. Then we had to pay right away, cash or card. The young man had trouble with the card machine, so cash was the only option. We asked about breakfast and were told there was no breakfast or coffee. That was a surprise, since the internet listing said otherwise. After dinner in the center, we returned to find the sports center where the hotel is located shut behind an electronic gate. We hadn't been given a code. We called the number on the business card, as instructed to do if we needed help or anything went wrong, but only got the answering machine. I'm still waiting for a call back, and I'm really annoyed. Luckily, some construction workers who also lived there arrived by car and let us in. Thanks to those guys. The information provided was seriously lacking. I can't recommend this hotel, and I don't need to go back.

The facade looks modern, but inside it has the feel of a typical East German prefabricated building. The room seemed to have had a half-hearted renovation: some things were new, many were old, and an electrical outlet was broken. Cleaning could have been better. Customer service and communication felt rather curt, and we could only access the parking after asking. Every radiator was on frost protection, when they could at least have been set to level 3. The toilet was a little loose, and there was a faint chemical smell in the bathroom, perhaps from the wrong cleaning product. It was a pleasant stay, but for the nightly price there's definitely room to improve. I assume it could be a top-notch hotel if it were in good condition. I'd give it another try next time. 👍
