Hotel - Landgasthof Rebstock

We brought our two young children, and the place worked perfectly for both of them. The balcony view from room 35 was so peaceful, and the rooms were clean. We also enjoyed a delicious meal at a fair price in the restaurant, and breakfast was very good. The hosts were lovely. There’s a nice little running route across the main road behind the hotel, too. It’s a really beautiful hotel.

We were lucky to get a room with a balcony 🙂 The rooms were spacious and clean, with a modern bathroom, and the staff were really pleasant. There was a wide choice at breakfast, though quite a lot of the food was already gone when we arrived, even though it wasn’t that late. I’d suggest replenishing it sooner. Thanks for having us!

We complained to the lady manager, but her answer was basically that this was how they made it and that they’d followed the same recipe for years. This was my second disappointing experience here. The first was in summer, when I tried something vegetarian with Ziegen Kase, though I can’t remember what it was called. For Christmas dinner, everyone else at our table ordered Wildragout and other meat dishes. I went for Kase Rahm Spätzle, thinking it was the safest vegetarian choice at a German restaurant. We waited 1 hour and 18 minutes for our food. It felt like a way to get people to keep ordering drinks. After that long wait, I expected freshly made food. Instead, what I got looked like it had been reheated more than two times, and it was really upsetting. The onion garnish had lost its texture and moisture, while the Spätzle was thick, dried out, and had no visible Rahm or cheese. This is not somewhere I’d go for authentic, fresh German food without meat.

The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the food was good, though too salty. We’d avoided the Rebstock for 12 years after it had fallen out of favour with my wife’s family, who used to go there regularly, because of inattentive, poor service. We tried it again for dinner, just the two of us this time, and the service was still sub-par. It took 50 minutes for our meals to arrive after ordering, which was too long for a Wednesday with the restaurant less than full. The meal was quite expensive, Euro 27 for Rumpsteak and Euro 25 for Spargel, and you can eat much better elsewhere in the area for that money. I can’t comment on the hotel, only the restaurant. I’m being generous with four stars; it really deserves 3.5. We won’t be going back to the Rebstock Bottingen.
