The room was the real surprise: it had recently been redone, felt very comfortable, and had a modern bathroom with a great shower. The outside of this centuries-old building could use some work, but the photos didn’t show the renovated interior. We’d been unsure about the hotel from those pictures and weren’t expecting much. Since Todtmoos is such a charming village and other places were fully booked during our visit, we gave it a try and were glad we did.

The Italian cook came over to chat with us and was really nice. She was helping out for a few minutes while the hosts had to step away. We loved the food, and the hosts were lovely too. Our nearby hotel didn’t serve dinner but had recommended this place, and it turned out to be a very nice experience. Even our dog was welcome.

We had a large room on the first floor and slept well in the comfortable beds. Breakfast was great too. A lovely place to stay in a quiet, hilly village.
