The landlady was friendly, and the renovated old villa has plenty of antique furniture if you like the character of an older house. But it’s a noisy place to walk around: the floorboards creak, and the stairs especially make a lot of sound. Wi-Fi is there, though the speed feels like the ISDN days. We used four bedrooms, and two had TVs. In one of those rooms, the tall footboard blocks the screen when you’re lying in bed.

It’s a lovely spot for a group gathering, with a beautiful old villa near the Moselle River and its own stream. Dogs are very welcome, though there’s no fence between the property and the road.

There are pleasant wine evenings and trips on the Moselle, among other things. It’s also a very nice place if you’re after some peace and quiet.

Four days of dice games at home with my great colleagues, and I had a fantastic time.

It was good, but there are too few men’s toilets for this number of pitches, and just two showers.
