The main drawback is the location. Without a car, it’s about a 25-minute walk to the city center and train station. Still, I’d highly recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Trier. The rooms are cozy and modern, with everything you might need for one night or several, including shampoo, body wash, tea, and coffee. Breakfast is included, and honestly it was amazing. I’ve stayed at other Holiday Inn Express hotels, but the food here really stood out: fresh buns, boiled and scrambled eggs, fruit, pancakes, croissants, jams, and lots more.

All the staff were fantastic and welcoming, and when my partner’s passport was stolen on a day trip to Luxembourg during our Christmas market visit, the hotel extended our stay without any fuss. The room was large, the breakfast was great, and the bar was friendly with cold beer. This Holiday Inn is one of the better ones I’ve stayed in. The only small downside was the distance from the center, about a 20-minute walk. The railway station is about the same distance. There are bus stops nearby, and the hotel has its own car park.

I stay in hotels every week for work, so I know what basic standards look like, and this place goes beyond them. The rooms were clean, tidy, and spacious. We could open the window, which helped with our dog and also because we couldn’t figure out the room temperature controls. The rooms were quiet too. We had one facing away from the road, and even with the window open overnight, we could barely hear traffic. The town center is a lovely 30-minute walk away. Breakfast was German-style, which I personally like: cold meats and sliced cheeses, boiled and scrambled eggs, mini pastries, yogurt, and fruit. There was enough choice without lots of wasted food. We also appreciated the hotel’s focus on sustainability. The attention to detail really blew me away. We stayed over my birthday but hadn’t mentioned it at reception. They must have noticed on my ID at check-in that my birthday was the next day. While we were out, they left a little plate with a birthday card in English and German and a couple of donuts, which we never expected. That extra touch made me feel they care, and it’s why I’ll definitely return. The value for money is exceptional and the staff are brilliant. Thank you all.

I booked a last-minute one-night stay for two, from September 20 to 21, 2025. This was one of the worst-value IHG properties I've experienced, and possibly my worst Diamond member stay. Parking was inadequate, which I can understand, but there was no backup plan at all. The staff were very unfriendly, and none of the Diamond perks were offered. By the end, I felt like I was doing them a favor by checking out. Whenever I asked for something, I just got a blank stare.

We got there around 6 pm and were lucky to get the last parking space, as parking is limited. The staff were helpful and spoke good English, and they recognized my IHG status. Breakfast was good too. It was easy to find and well placed for exploring Trier. A very good hotel.
