Hotel Felsberger Hof

That morning walk up to nearby Teufelsburg Castle is well worth doing. I come back every year because the hotel is simple, clean, and dependable. It feels like a welcome, very human break from the over-the-top five-star places.

The bus stop is practically right outside, on the right, and there's a nice view. Breakfast was good and the room was clean. The top floor gets too hot without air conditioning, and the Wi-Fi doesn't work up there, though it is really fast on the second floor and below. Something may be set up wrong on the top floor, and specialists could probably fix it. The street-facing side is noisy. In summer, refrigerators are removed, or so I understood; I may have misunderstood, since I found one in a room and the spaces seem meant for minibars. Food and drink prices felt a bit high. The man grilling in the evenings is pushy. The shower doesn't look great, there's no shampoo, just liquid soap and shower gel, and there's no hairdryer. The location isn't very convenient for Teufelsburg, Saarlouis, shopping, or places to eat. There's only a bakery within a five-minute walk. Saarlouis city centre is more than 5 km away on foot, while Teufelsburg Castle is more than two places away, including a steep climb. Distances are relative 😉. I couldn't find out when reception is staffed, so I didn't ask about whether it's possible to get under 30. I also don't know the other hotels nearby, so maybe there isn't a better option. If I come back, I might change my rating, possibly for the better.

The welcome was warm and friendly, and I had a great time. The boss doesn't speak French, but he has a French employee and brings her in at least for the starter. Thanks to the team.

Very clean, with staff who were friendly and fun. It's perfectly fine for a night, though not especially comfortable.
