Ringhotel Mönchs Waldhotel

We had a brilliant stay and I’ll definitely come back. It’s a welcoming, friendly hotel with great facilities. The breakfast was great, and so was dinner. Every staff member we met was super friendly and helpful.

The location was perfect, with a lovely view of the Schwarzwald and the sound of the nearby water and mill. Staff were very friendly and worked hard, dinner was excellent, and our suite was spacious. Even so, the hotel fell a little short of four stars for me. Wi-Fi barely worked across most of the hotel, including our room, despite the known poor mobile reception in the area. Maintenance also needs attention: there were lots of stains on the walls, curtains, and ceiling, the curtains were damaged, and the outdoor furniture looked very worn, almost shabby. The carpet around the outdoor pool was pretty unpleasant. There was no air conditioning or fan, which was uncomfortable for guests and for the staff, who were sweating heavily. We’d hoped to enjoy the view and sounds from our terrace or balcony at night, but a wedding party meant loud music continued past midnight. We weren’t told about it beforehand, and we’d have chosen somewhere else if we had known. There was no coffee machine in the suite, either, and the staff’s English was limited or nonexistent. The staff were lovely, but the place felt underwhelming and outdated.

It’s a cool hotel if you want to get away from the city and unwind. A bit in the middle of nowhere, but still a cool place.

We stayed Sunday night through Monday. The place itself is lovely and traditional, but the employees weren’t very nice. They kept looking at us while we ate or chatted, even though I really doubt we were doing anything wrong. It felt like you had to be at least 50 to get friendly treatment. We’re both younger and had just hoped for a cozy weekend, but the waitress’s behavior overshadowed the whole stay. The sauna is very nice, but there’s no emergency generator. While we were using it, the power went out and we were suddenly in complete darkness. We had to find our own way out, and an employee only showed up about 10 minutes later.
