Breakfast is made to suit what guests want, and the staff are friendly. The riding stable is lovely, rustic, and peaceful, with lots of nature and no traffic noise. The furnishings are a bit dated, but my room was clean and quiet. I expect I'll visit again.

The dinner was another letdown: they served ready-made discount-store meatballs in an opened plastic container, and a seasonal worker who helps muck out and in the stables also works part-time in the kitchen. I took photos of what I saw and experienced. I don't understand how a local guide could give this five stars. Maybe there's been some confusion. I booked a double room for two nights at short notice and trusted the website description and the four Google reviews available that day. I was disappointed. At €100 a night, I expected a lot more. The owners are kind and clearly care about the horses, but the boarding facility attached to the riding school is a complete failure, unloved and poorly maintained. Our room's furnishings were worn and the mattress was bad. The other rooms looked ramshackle too, and nothing felt worth the price. Even the former "park" behind the house was overgrown and neglected. It almost looked like nothing had changed inside since the original restaurant closed in the 1970s.

It's a beautiful old farmhouse with a riding stable. The rooms are good, with spacious bathrooms, though there's no breakfast.

We usually visit twice a year and always enjoy seeing the Brandt family. We came across the Genengerhof by chance and were just there again recently. We'll be back in the autumn.
