The day room ended up being my favorite part of Ferienwohnung Storchennest. It connects to the dining area and works as a lot more than a study. The apartment had excellent WIFI throughout, and I used that bright, naturally lit space as my computer and office area. It would also be nice for reading, lounging, relaxing, or having a glass of wine at the end of the day. The bedroom is upstairs via a wooden spiral staircase with an old-fashioned design. It’s a quiet, elevated retreat, with hardwood floors, a very comfortable bed, and privacy from the rest of the apartment. From up there, you get lovely views over Volkach, with townspeople strolling by below. I spent three weeks traveling around Germany and was lucky to make Ferienwohnung Storchennest my base in the quaint town of Volkach. It’s a luxurious apartment in a charming village in the heart of Bavaria, and the hosts speak fluent English. The host family made sure I’d know where to find what I needed, taking me on a walk to point out marketplaces, churches, and the infamous town square. They introduced me to local people, some of whom I saw again later. The kitchen and dining area are bright and spotless, with modern appliances including a stovetop, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, and ornate cookware and table settings. It’s set up for making breakfast, lunch, and dinner, whether you’re feeding a family, a group of friends, or just a couple. The bathroom is lavishly decorated, with a European shower and a luxurious tub. There are plenty of towels, a hair dryer, space for hanging, drying, and rinsing clothes, and iron tables for laying out clothes or everyday items. The living room is eclectic, with lots of detail: classic model cars on display, an antique treasure chest, books, distinctive lighting, art, and a couch that’s both comfortable and elegant. There’s a flat-screen TV, too. Volkach serves lovely local food and sumptuous wine. Church bells ring out over the town, and ancient towers still stand. It felt like a fairy tale, with sights and sounds beyond what I’d imagined. The apartment is central, so I didn’t need a car. Buses connect to train stations, making it easy to travel across Western Europe, though I preferred exploring Volkach’s cobblestone streets, nearby sister towns, and livelier cities, many just a short distance away. When I booked Ferienwohnung Storchennest, I had no idea what a treat was in store. The apartment’s grandeur, the village’s rich history, and the exceptionally warm welcome will bring me back one day. I can hardly wait to return to this home base and enjoy more of Germany’s heritage and culture, with its magical charm and 42 UNESCO World Sites.
We only stayed one night. The ground-floor apartment was spacious, very clean, and well kept, and it had a small terrace, which was nice. The host was very friendly.
The apartment was lovely and well maintained, with everything we needed, and it was welcoming to children and dogs. The hosts were very nice, and the town’s beautiful setting came with a warm welcome for guests. Hope we can come back soon.
We’ll definitely return. The setting is wonderful, and the apartment is comfortably and cleanly furnished.
Nothing to complain about, we were completely satisfied. We’d gladly come again and will definitely be back.
