Hotel Am Torturm

I only wish we’d stayed a few more nights. For an affordable price, you get a cozy little hotel in a charming central street, with rooms that each have their own character and all the comfort you need. Breakfast had an amazing range of excellent food, including homemade jams, herb cream cheese, and muesli. I’m still thinking about the cheeses.

It was our second visit, and we were warmly welcomed again. The staff are fantastic and accommodating. I loved the wallpaper and the bathroom tiling, and the buffet breakfast was great, especially the homemade cake and scrambled eggs.

The rooms are spacious and nice, right in the center, and the breakfast is really fantastic.

Review 10/2023 The hotel sits by Gaibacher Tor in the city center and old town. The entrance and reception are on Grabengasse. There’s no dedicated parking area, but parking on both sides of Josif Wächter Str. is free on Saturdays after 12 o'clock. The lobby is small, with one two-person couch, one chair, and stands with free pamphlets and maps. There’s also a small elevator that fits at most two people without luggage, or one person with one bag. You need to keep the button pressed all the way up or down. The hotel staff were delightfully friendly and welcoming, and can offer recommendations for wineries or walking tours. The breakfast buffet was exceptionally generous and varied, with indoor and outdoor seating depending on the season and weather. Coffee creme is free and much better than filter coffee. It’s vegetarian friendly, though there was no fresh fruit such as grapes, apples, bananas, or oranges. The room and surroundings were quiet, and the room was bright and cozy with a spacious bathroom. There were no welcome drinks, not even a basic bottle of water. No coffee or tea maker, electric kettle, slippers, bathrobe, pencil, or writing paper either. Drinks in the minibar or on the table cost extra. For a one-night stay, there was no cleaning and no special gift to offset the environmental costs of cleaning.
