The house was cozy and had everything we needed, and the staff were warm, helpful, and professional. There are endless hiking trails through beautiful forests nearby.

There are several interesting places to visit within an hour’s drive. The grounds have around 100 bungalows and tiny houses, with options for three to five beds; some appear to be lived in permanently. It’s a quiet, pleasant spot, and the place was probably built in the mid-1980s.

The park felt peaceful and quiet, even though it seemed almost fully booked. We spent eight days here in April, when the prices were quite modest, and appreciated that reception stayed open when we arrived an hour late. The owners were easygoing about our two cats and charged only a small fee. Our first choice of house was no longer available, so they upgraded us for free to a wonderful Robinson Crusoe house. It seemed privately owned, with a cozy feel, pleasant decor, a huge garden, and everything kept very tidy. We felt at home right away. There was a private parking spot, plus space beside the house for loading and unloading. It was still chilly, but the heating worked perfectly, and the kitchen and bathroom were both fine. After we got home, I realized I’d left my coat and house keys behind. When I contacted them, they searched straight away, found everything, and sent it back to me quickly. That’s what I call perfect.

Each house feels like something out of a fairy tale, and everything is very clean. The reception staff are lovely and even speak English, which seemed rare in Germany, though maybe I’ve just visited too few places. It’s worth staying for a week.

The Therme bath is just around the corner, and there’s lovely scenery around Katzenbuckel, the extinct volcano. It’s a great place to unwind, get some fresh country air, or take a walk in the forest. The area is quiet, the pension houses are clean, and there’s plenty of parking for visitors. Each house has a toilet, bath, and kitchenette. The people are friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely. I’d recommend it if you want to get away from the big city bustle.
