Hotel Brauerei Walter

The restaurant is a quiet spot for a good meal, usually without much of a crowd. I've stayed here several times while working nearby, and the service has been spectacular, better than at chain hotels. The rooms and beds are small, though the nightly rate is too, and this lovely town isn't somewhere I'd want to spend all my time indoors. In the mornings, hot water can run short, and the temperature in some rooms can't be adjusted.

Breakfast was included and good, and the room was fine. It's self check-in, so there's not much service to speak of, and the only food offering is breakfast, not a restaurant. If you're in Waldshut Tiengen, check out the bier garten at Deli Wirtshaus.

The dessert is a must: fruit adds a lovely extra flavor alongside roasted almonds and ice cream. We also had an excellent zander filet and great salad, plus a tasty little first bite on the house. The wine list is nice, but the prices are what you'd expect at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Service could be better, though I think we arrived at a busy time, so that's understandable. The downstairs restaurant and its chef are the real highlights, with amazing food and wonderful staff service. The room is modern and comfortable, too. A gem in the Wutach Valley.
