Rhein-Camping Waldshut

The Stellplatz is across from the campsite by the Rhine and costs 18 euros, compared with 28 at the campsite. You can pay at the machine with notes or coins, choose from different languages, and find the WiFi code on its back. At the campsite reception, you can order fresh bread and rolls. The restaurant with an outdoor terrace looked lovely, but was closed on Monday. There's a grey-water drain and toilet cassette cleaning point. Fresh water is 50c for 10 litres, showers are 1 euro and very clean, and the campsite has washing machines and tumble dryers. Electric hookup at the Stellplatz costs 1 euro per 1 kilowatt.

This is a cozy, well-kept campsite where I've stayed in a tent several times on bike tours. My last visit, in September 2023, brought an unpleasant surprise: the bicycle-and-tent pitch had gone up from 12 to 19 euros, and a 3-minute shower costs another 1 euro. At that price, I'll seriously consider whether to camp here again.

The setting by the Rhein is lovely, with nice scenery and a riverside walking path. It's a clean site, and the customer service was friendly. We paid 28€ for two people and a tent for one night in mid-July; camping with bikes here is simple and easy. The tent area could feel crowded if there are more than 10 tents, but we had no problem. The restaurant and small supermarket were good and reasonably priced. They're convenient, though for more choice or better quality there are restaurants and supermarkets within 1-2km. You can swim in the river, but ask staff or locals for advice if you don't know it. It's not recommended for children. There's also a swimming pool next to the campsite with a separate entry fee.

For around 30€ a night, we were given a spot on a small patch of grass between camping homes and caravans, which felt quite uncomfortable. The site was okay, but seemed overpriced for what you get. Even at that rate, showers cost 1€ for 3 minutes of hot and cold water, and some reception staff were quite rude. There are some good points: the sanitary buildings are brand new, there's a covered sitting area for campers in bad weather, and the site is close to the Rhine.
