Zum Flieger Restaurant & Pension

The staff were friendly and the service was very good when my family and I stopped for lunch on February 18, 2016. The meal itself was disappointing. We ordered hamburger schnitzel, pork steak au four, and the fish platter. The schnitzel and steak were both badly cooked: parts were overdone and chewy, while other parts were still half raw. Everything was also very lightly seasoned. I brought that up, but got only a curt response that the kitchen would be told. I would have liked a little more care, maybe an apology or some compensation, but neither was offered. So I can't agree with the earlier positive comments about the food.

We ended up finding a place to stay with a kind family nearby, since this one didn't work out. The photos are misleading, and after what we saw I wouldn't recommend renting a room here. The place seemed dirty and chaotic, more like a construction site. We never got as far as seeing a room or trying the food. I tried to arrange a room spontaneously, but couldn't find reception or anything like it. Other guests helped us track down the two owners. They were very rude, snapping loudly at the men who had helped us and asking whether we still wanted to eat, since apparently nothing would be available, even though it was only 6 p.m. When we asked about a room, they curtly said there was none, that we should have booked much earlier, and told us to go somewhere else. Not having a room, or being told to book sooner, wasn't the worst of it. We'd tried to sort this out by phone hours earlier, but nobody seemed to care enough to answer. Then we were treated so badly and dismissed. After that, even one star feels like too much.

I stay in hotels and guesthouses for work pretty often, and this was a disaster. I checked in late at night and was told right away that I couldn't shower because it would be too noisy. The room wasn't very clean, and the bed creaked and wobbled. Breakfast wasn't served until 8:00. Before then, all there was was coffee, one ready-baked roll, a bit of butter, and some toppings. I only stayed the one night, which was enough for me. I found another guesthouse afterward. I can't say anything about the food, and I know people can have different opinions, but I won't stay there again. Regards.

The food is good value for money, and the cozy interior sits within very well-kept grounds. There's also something here for aviation enthusiasts. Even though the restaurant is right on the main road, it doesn't feel like a tourist trap. Don't let that put you off.
