We arrived around midnight, and the first thing we encountered was check-in by a lonely computer. It told the couple ahead of us that their room “wasn’t ready,” at midnight, in an empty hotel. I guess the cleaners were still on shift from the afterlife. The room had curtains half off their rail, like they’d tried to escape and failed. We had to keep the toilet door open to block the view of the wandering undead through the window. The mattress felt like a Ryanair seat after being steamrolled, and the pillow looked and felt normal until my head hit it, when it collapsed flatter than tracing paper. Some piece of engineering. They advertised a vending machine, but there wasn’t one. At first I was annoyed; with that atmosphere, maybe it was safer. It might have given me expired soup from 2009, eaten my money and summoned a demon, or exploded from emotional exhaustion. “No vending machine, for your protection.” If you want to feel alive in a place that feels profoundly dead, this is it. Otherwise, the car, airport, or a ditch would all be upgrades. It was like Chernobyl had opened a hotel with a zombie movie. I half expected a radioactive goat to greet us.

The location was a real plus: right by the train station and only steps from Johan Cruijff Arena, shopping, and restaurants. Getting into the city center takes just minutes, while the area itself feels quiet and safe at night. Staff were kind and professional, and check-in went smoothly. I also liked the small gym and the free tea and coffee in the lobby. For a very reasonable price, my room at Hampton by Hilton Amsterdam / Arena Boulevard was clean and modern, with the essentials, a super comfortable bed, spotless bathroom, and dependable Wi-Fi. The free hot breakfast added good value, with plenty to choose from, including eggs, waffles, fresh fruit, and pastries. In Amsterdam, where breakfast is often extra, this is one of the better deals for comfort and location.

The self check-in was really easy, and the rooms were clean, equipped, and had comfortable beds. It’s only a 15-minute walk to the airport, but walking there isn’t convenient. The hotel is quite dark outside and could use more lighting, though I felt safe. They don’t answer emails. I’d recommend it for an overnight stop.
