I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The restaurant is closed now, the rooms are old and in poor shape, and the bathroom door in our room wouldn’t close or lock because it was broken. One morning breakfast wasn’t available because the hotel owner wanted to sleep in again. Later, when we headed to the local bakery, she greeted us in good spirits, looking well rested and holding a steaming cup of coffee. They also didn’t accept debit cards. Even during the festival season, €99 for a double room that was broken and only moderately maintained, with no food or service, felt like a real outrage. At the advertised price outside festival season, it’s somewhat acceptable, but not a cent more. I know festival season means different prices, and that it’s hard to find anything in Bayreuth at short notice, so unfortunately I couldn’t cancel. I’ve been going to the festival for several years and have always stayed in guesthouses nearby in roughly this price range. I’ve had good experiences every time except this one.

There’s a lovely beer garden and free parking, and the train station with direct connections is about 50 meters away. The hotel sits at the foot of the Fichtel Mountains, just 10 minutes from Bayreuth city center. I was there three weeks ago. It’s under new management and has been freshly renovated. The place is very family-friendly, and seems popular with Scandinavians. There were definitely lots of Danish and Swedish families with children. I paid €35 and was very satisfied. The breakfast was generous, the service very friendly, and it was simply perfect.
